idrcbacte-diagnostic1Salmonella serotypingDiagnostic Services

The unit provides culture of clinical specimens for bacteria and fungi services to private labs and government hospitals that do not have Bacteriology lab. This unit serves government hospitals as a referral lab for bacterial and fungal identification and enteric pathogen serotyping.

Beside the diagnosis of bacterial and fungal infections based on culture and identification, several molecular diagnostic services are available such as for tuberculosis, Bordetella pertussis and zoonotic infections such as leptospirosis, brucellosis and rickettsiosis.

List of current tests perform at the unit are as follows:

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing (AST) of bacteria.
  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing verification (resistance).
  • Reference Identification for aerobic bacteria.
  • Reference Identification for anaerobic bacteria.
  • Culture for H. ducreyi.
  • Serotyping of N. meningitidis.
  • Serotyping of H. influenzae.
  • Melioidosis serology.
  • Legionella serology.
  • Chlamydia serology.
  • Leptospira: Culture, MAT and ELISA.
  • Acid-Fast Bacteria: culture and direct smear.
  • Serotyping of V. cholerae, Shigella spp., Salmonella typhi and Salmonella spp.
  • Pulse Field Gel Electrophoresis: MRSA , nosocomial infection and S. typhi
  • Indirect immunoproxidase test for Rickettsia.
  • Q-fever serology.
  • Human Brucellosis serology.
  • Cat scratch disease serology.

Molecular diagnostics

  • PCR for Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • PCR for Bordetella pertussis.
  • PCR for brucellosis.
  • PCR for leptospirosis.

  • Fungal culture.
  • Reference Identification of fungal culture.
  • Antifungal Susceptibility Testing.
  • Cryptococcal antigen.
  • Aspergillus antibodies using CIEP.
  • Histoplasma antibodies.
  • Candida antigen.
  • Aspergillus antigen.
