The Phytochemistry Unit, one of the four units within Herbal Medicine Research Center (HMRC) was established in April 2001 to attain the center’s research thrust in evaluating the safety and efficacy of natural products from the country’s rich-biodiversity particularly in four of the priority disease segments; cancer, malarial, dengue, and neglected tropical diseases.

The Unit focuses on the assessment of chemical properties from both plants and fungi with a view to develop value added and safe standardized natural products and to identify new molecules entities for medicinal and healthcare product development.
