The Endocrine Unit, Specialised Diagnostic Centre (SDC) is the pioneer lab providing endocrine test services including Parathyroid hormones (PTH) for chronic kidney disease patients and DHEAS, IGF-1 for adrenal disorders.
Currently, this unit is still providing specialised endocrine tests including Diabetes Autoimmune markers and Anti Mullerian Hormone.
In line with our core functions, research activities of this unit are focused on rare inherited genetic endocrine diseases including diabetes and adrenal disorders focusing on using high end analyser platforms and molecular analysis.
Current main on-going research project in this unit is ‘Newborn Screening (NBS) 17 OH Progesterone and Thyroid Stimulating hormone (TSH) using dried blood spot on DELFIA’.
In addition, the unit is also involved in pilot research project involving KKM hospitals on ‘Method development of Newborn Screening Spot (NBS) 17 OH Progesterone’ - moving towards Newborn Screening Programmed for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia to look at the effectiveness and early detection of this disease.
Apart, the unit is also involved in research project on inherited diabetic diseases looking at the molecular aspects among the Malaysian young diabetic population.
